PF Cover Vol 1 for Fractal Axe FX III
How a Sound Library Becomes Part of the Show
PF Cover – Volume 1 brings five songs from the repertoire to the Fractal Axe-Fx III, organized across 21 Scenes and built around the live tones of the PULSE era.
The starting point is not a single “Gilmour sound,” but what the guitar needs to do at different moments in Breathe, Coming Back to Life, Money, The Great Gig in the Sky, and Run Like Hell.
From Sound to Song
In Run Like Hell, the Scenes follow the Main Riff, Chorus, Bridge, and Ending; Coming Back to Life moves from Intro and Verse through to Solo and Clean. Money is the most complex track, with Crunch, Tremolo Verse, Solo, Bridge, and specific states such as Total Dry, Tube Driver ON, Chorus 2X, and Mute.
Breathe remains more essential, while The Great Gig in the Sky introduces a dedicated lap steel configuration, with Intro, Boosted, and Dry Scenes. In this way, every change remains tied to a specific function within the arrangement.
On stage, it's all about the FLOW
On the Fractal Axe-Fx III, the 21 Scenes are not treated as 21 independent sounds, but as different states of the same signal chain, recalled at the exact points where they are needed within the song. It is the transition from one Scene to the next that ultimately determines how effectively the bank works during a live performance.
Before the live show, we focus mainly on level jumps, delay, reverb, modulation, and boost response at the band’s actual performance volume. In Coming Back to Life, we check the transition from clean to solo; in Run Like Hell, the continuity of the rhythm parts; and in Money, the balance between crunch, tremolo, chorus, and boost.
Scenes such as Total Dry, Tube Driver ON, Boosted, and Mute also serve a specific function within the flow: they allow us to isolate or quickly modify part of the signal chain without having to change presets. In this way, rig control remains directly tied to the arrangement and to the actual movements of the setlist.
